Blog #15 Guess Who's Coming for Dinner

Hi, I am Chihiro. My spring vacation began since three days ago! How about you:)??
This time, I am going to talk about "Guess Who's Coming for Dinner ".  This is a film directed by Stanley Kramer, and received some prizes.

In this film, the white woman Joanna and the negro man John fall in love, and they decide to marry. In other words, they decided on intermarriage. Of course, it is very hard for thier parents to accept John and Joanna's marriage. In this movie, we can see difficulties between two families.

At first, although Joanna's mother was reluctant to let her marry, gradually, she thought  that the marriage is her daughter's best hapiness, so she decided to stand by her daughter. However, although her father has a liberal attitude toward racial discrimination,  he objected to his daughter's marriage. I agree their marriage, because their happiness is most important, and the highest priority, I think.  Still, I have some sympathy for Joanna's father. It is a foregone conclusion that John and Joanna find trouble everywher. So it is quite natural for him to be against.

In this movie,  it is the impressive scene for me that a black housekeeper strongly opposed their marriage. Why was she so strongly opposed to their marriage? Why has she an instinctive dislike of Jphn? ... by the way, I was surprised  at the scene which she goes out with a white male.

The last scene(both familles accepted  John and Joanna's marriage) moved me deeply. To sum up, I recommend this movie!!!!!!

Have a nice vacatioooooon :)!!

  1. I also wondered why Tillie hated John so much - I think she didn't want another black person invading her space. Maybe she thought it would cause some rivalry. Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed the movie.
